MFA Press Statement: Official Visit of the Right Honourable David Cameron, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom to Singapore, 28 to 29 July 2015

     UK Prime Minister David Cameron commenced his official visit to Singapore today.

     Prime Minister Cameron gave a speech this afternoon organised by the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy that was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Tharman Shanmugaratnam as well as Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Grace Fu, who is the Minister-in-Attendance. Prime Minister Cameron also visited the Singapore Botanic Gardens today where an orchid, Papilionanda David Cameron, was named in his honour. 

     This evening, Prime Minister Cameron met with top business leaders from Singapore and the UK at a reception organised by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) to promote business links between the two countries.  Prime Minister Cameron and Minister Fu witnessed the signing of two Statements of Intent (SOI) between the UKTI and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) with private sector co-signatories, Lloyd’s and Aviva, to support the development of regional insurance markets.  Following Lloyd’s and Aviva, other interested parties are invited to join as co-signatories of these SOIs.

     Prime Minister Cameron will receive an official welcome at the Istana tomorrow followed by a call on President Tony Tan Keng Yam and meeting with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong who will also host lunch.  The two Prime Ministers will also witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Cyber Security Cooperation between the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore and the Office of Cyber Security and Information Assurance (Cabinet Office) of the United Kingdom.
