Press Statement by ELD And MFA - Voting Overseas

Singaporeans living in the Middle East will have a brand new polling station this

coming Singapore General Election. This is after the Singapore’s Consulate-General

in Dubai is designated as an overseas polling station this year.


The other overseas polling stations are in London, Tokyo, Beijing, Washington, Hong

Kong, Shanghai, San Francisco, New York and Canberra, places where there are a

significant number of Singaporeans.


Registration as an overseas elector has been suspended since the issuance of the

Writ of Election on 25 August 2015, 4pm (Singapore time) until Polling Day. Every

overseas elector who can vote at an overseas polling station will receive a poll letter

from the Elections Department, which will be mailed to his/her overseas address.

The poll letter will contain details of the date and hours of polling at his/her allotted

overseas polling station. For overseas electors who have provided their email

address in their application forms, a similar poll letter will also be emailed to

them. Alternatively, overseas electors can access the Election Department’s

eServices at http://www.eld.gov.sg/online.html with their SingPass to check on their

polling day details.


During the election, the date and hours of the overseas polls will be announced

through the Singapore media, as well as the websites of the Elections Department,

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the respective Overseas Missions.


Every overseas elector is allowed to vote only once during an election at either the

overseas polling station or local polling station that has been allotted to him/her.


In the event that an elector fails to vote at an election, his name will be removed from

the registers, but he may apply to the Elections Department to restore his name to

the registers of electors one month after the election. If he does not restore his

name, he will not be able to vote or stand as a candidate in future elections.
